Meet Joi Barnett

Joi Barnett is a Mother, Student Midwife, and Birth Educator currently living in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is Joi's primary mission to improve birth outcomes for black birthing persons. To that end, Joi has embarked on a journey to obtain her Midwifery Degree in order to practice midwifery and impact the lives of mothers and their children.

The United States is currently experiencing a black infant Mortality and maternal mortality crisis. Black infants in Indiana are two and a half times more likely than white infants to die before their first birthday. The maternal mortality rate for Black women in Indiana is 53.4 per 100,000 births. Through her work, Joi Barnett seeks to provide birthing persons with quality care, birthing options, and education.

Your giving can help Joi reach her goal to finish school and begin her practice. Help us make a difference!

Why "Birth Your Joi"

For so many black birthing persons bringing forth new life is a cause for great stress. Reasons range from bringing a brown child into an inherently racist society, to concerns about respectful care, to financial stress, to the lack of access to black care providers. Birth Your Joi was created with the black birthing body in mind to restore the joy of creating and delivering life. Joi believes that working from a place of joy is a game changer. And if the game can be changed for black birthing persons, it will be changed for all birthing persons.
