Puerto Rico Family Relief

My name is Al Hernandez and I reside in Keller, TX. A category four hurricane, Maria, left my 94 year old father like many other Puerto Ricans without electricity, running water, and telecommunications. He was able to borrow his stepdaughter's business generator to keep referigeration going and the use of some electric fans to cool he and his 80 year old spouse.

In a weeks time they have used $400 of fuel to run the generator and his own generator broke down and will have to be either repaired or replaced when more generators are sent to the stores. He will need at least $400 per week to run the generator until the island final gets power or the grid is restored in Aguadilla where he resides. This may be anywhere from two to six months.

Beside fuel he will need more cash as stores are requiring cash instead of credit or debit cards. Gasoline stations are still rationing gasoline in incements of $20 and lines range from four to six hours. Given both the enegy and power outages people have to waste a lot of fuel to get to their banks, if open, to get cash to purchase food and water.

Altough, I don't think this situation will persist forever, he and his family including several great grandchildren under the age of five  will need more support than either myself and my sisters can provide. At the moment, most of the money is being used pay for fuel but the obvious is that he will need money for more expensive food, pharmaceuticals, water, and other emergencies.

You money will be well spent and it will also enable his step daughter and care giver to also purchase a second genertor to power her roadside food truck which provides additional income for the family and makes them self sufficient once again.

Many of you have been asking me since the storm hit how you can help. Please me help my father and his extended family. The situation is critical and I have no way of simply flying to the island to make it better. The proceeds will be wired to their bank. Please open up your hearts and your billfolds. My father is also a proud veteran but can no longer depend on the local VA Hospital because of budget cuts both at he local and Federal level.  He like so many others on the island are worthy of your support.
