The Fight for Milo's Heart

Donation protected
Hi everyone!

My name is Brianna and my fiance is Vincent.

Our sweet dog's name is Milo. We found Milo when he was about 8 weeks old on the streets. I couldn't refuse his sweet loving face and just had to take the poor guy home. He was infested with flees, had worms, cuts and scrapes, but by the end of it all, he ended up happy and healthy.. so we thought.

Milo is a year and half old. Still a puppy and crazy as ever! We recently moved to Arizona this year and come February Milo started to have a cough. The diagnosis process has been a nightmare and very emotional for us.

I took Milo to the vet and was told it was Valley Fever which is very common here. For some that don't know, Valley fever is a fungal infection dogs can get here. We started him on antiobiotics and he was ok for a while. His cough came back and again, we went to the vet and was told the same thing. We started another round of antibiotics, but the cough remained. We ended up seeing another vet within the same office and we finally got tests drawn and x-rays done. The x-rays showed an abnormality with his heart that the vet could not quite figure out. We were told it was fluid build up and to go to the emergency vet to drain the fluid and get a biopsy.

Off to the emergency vet we went and was at first told it could be Valley Fever even if tests came back negative. She then ran an ECG and looked at the x-rays again and said she thought he had Dialated Cardiomyopathy and it looks like his heart could fail any minute. As you can probably guess, we were devestated! We were then told to see a cardiologist to get a better understanding.

Well guys, down to the ACTUAL problem now! Milo has PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). In other words, there is a hole between two arteries leading into his heart that should have naturally closed and did not. This is leading to an oversized heart and atrial fibrillation. With medication he can live up to 3 more years which is amazing, but we would like him to live much longer of course. There is a procedure that can be done to place a permanent blockage inbetween the 2 arteries which can let him live a longer and happy life! The vet states this can extend his life to 7+ years and there is a high probability that after the procedure, he will no longer need medication.

The procedure would definitiely be a blessing not only for us, but for Milo and even his best friend James Bond, our cat. Unfortunately, this procedure isn't the cheapest thing in the world and being younger adults, we do not have the financial ability to afford the procedure, especially in the short amount of time we need to schedule it. The vet says the sooner the better so we would like to hopefully schedule it within the next month or 2. Here is a link to the clinic we will be using if we can get the surgery done! http://www.dvmspecialists.com/

We come to you friends, family, and even kind strangers to help us raise the money to make our best friend, our pal, our dog child the best he can be! We understand we may not reach our goal of $5,000 to have the procedure done. Just know if we do not, the money will go to the medications and vet visits to sustain his life as long as we can. Your generosity will be more than appreciated not just by us, but from Milo too.

Thank you for your time and God bless.
