Beyond4Walls Forest School is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in a small town called Fernie. Situated in the south-east corner of BC, nature is at our door-step! These children are enrolled in an outdoor play-based preschool program where they spend 100% of their time learning outside.
Who are we?
Beyond 4 Walls Forest School is run by a non-profit organization called Outdoor Connections that has as it's mission:
"to provide affordable opportunities for children and youth to connect to themselves, each other and the natural world".
Beyond 4 Walls facilitators, Courtney Haeusler and Sinead Murphy are passionate about providing alternative ways of learning and helping connect youth to nature.
Forest and Nature Schools can heal and strengthen children bodies through increased physical fitness, higher levels of Vitamin D and better eyesight. Exposure to nature can reduce children's stress levels, protect their emotional develpment and enhance their social relations through unstructured free play.
The children are learning about what it takes to stay warm in all weather conditions and are increasing their resiliency and tolerance for adversity.
Why Help?
This non-profit organization is still in the very early stages. Countless amount of volunteer hours are continuosly being donated to ensure the quality and success of the programs. We value promoting "accessability for all", and aim to keep our registration costs either subsidized or as low as possible.
We need your help to purchase a Yurt to use as an indoor warming hut ~ a place where the children can escape the harsh elements in times of emergency or need. This Yurt will be a situated in the woods and has been chosen as the most suitable structure for the children, instructors and volunteers. A Yurt can give a rustic, cabin like feel and eminate a calm sense of peace. A yurt has a very low impact on the earth and can be easily taken down in a matter of hours.
Your donation, whether it big or small, will help more and more children access outdoor programs. The funds raised wil greatly help out the whole organization (Outdoor Connections) as other programs can hopefully have access to the Yurt. It is our hope that school groups, youth groups and community members can all benefit from a yurt in the woods.
