For the Love of Lori:
Lori (Herbel)Grimmett, loving wife, mother, friend and teacher needs your help. Many of you know that Lori was diagnosed with lymphoma and breast cancer last year. She fought the good fight and finally found herself in remission... until late August when the headaches started. After several trips to the ER for “migraine” relief she collapsed and was life-flighted to KU Medical Center. A brain scan confirmed our worst fears and now she’s in the fight of her life. Lori has been diagnosed with metastatic brain cancer. One of the tumors is blocking the flow of vital cerebrospinal fluid-causing her severe headaches.
Surgery was attempted to remove part of the largest tumor, but it failed. Recently, surgeons placed a shunt to relieve the pressure in her brain. She has had radiation treatment, which will be followed by chemotherapy.
Lori has been left very confused with cognitive deficits and stroke-like symptoms. She is currently undergoing intensive speech and physical therapy in Kansas City.
Her husband Dave and their three children (Maddie, Tate, and Reece) have remained at her side as much as possible throughout this ordeal, making the two hour drive from Emporia. Dave credits his faith and the support of family and friends for helping their family work through this stressful time.
It’s been determined that Lori will be able to go home to live with her family if they can provide 24 hour care and modify the house for handicap accessibility. Unfortunately, they have found that 24 hour care will not be covered by insurance. It only covers several hours a week of therapy and nursing care, making this a cost prohibitive option.
Friends of the family have volunteered their time to help with the construction to modify their house. But the cost of materials will produce yet another financial burden for the family.
They are generally private, but understand that it’s okay to receive help from others in times of need. Share the love and help reduce their burden by donating today. Every little bit helps!
