For Love Of Her Smile

As many of you know, my mum (claudia jean mccabe) has been through the wars in a decades-long fight to save her smile. The ravages of congenital periodontal disease and the legacy of a car accident years ago now mean that a team prosthodontic specialists will be doing whatever they can to restore her smile. This essential restorative undertaking begins with very difficult surgery on September 7th, 2018. As a consequence, talking and eating will be challenging. It will be several months before this smile project is completed.
The lead dentist has informed this is one of the most complex cases he has ever encountered. Her condition was further compromised by a 1980 car accident. As such, she has undergone over 70 operations on her mouth - from bone graphs, sinus lifts, extractions, implants, endodontics and periodontal surgery. Ongoing periodontal disease has already caused loss of implants which further complicates the remedial plans.
Claudia's colourful spirit, joyous smile, extraordinary talent and inspiring ingenuity has been a bright light in our hearts and art community as a working artist for more than 30 years. She is our most devoted, caring friend and family we cherish. Personally, I have been amazed that over the last 10 years, all while living and working on her own in Prince Edward County, she has courageously triumphed over diverticulitis, a lisfranc fracture, a compound ankle fracture and more recently, lung cancer. I'd love nothing more than for her not to have to go through this latest struggle alone.
As I am also a working artist without a stable support system, I know every little bit of help counts ♥ My mum has taught me to be brave, thoughtful, kind and unconditionally loving, so I've created this campaign to show what is possible when a community comes together ... so when she smiles, she feels love come round full circle.
