For Lanka Fundraiser for Cancer Hospital

Currently, cancer is a leading cause of mortality in Sri Lanka. This is balanced with the dual challenge of Covid-19. Our Sydney-based charity ‘For Lanka’ is continuing to support the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama, and the other 8 regional cancer care hospitals in Sri Lanka.
The main challenges faced by patients are getting a bed in the ward and then the necessary medications needed for the treatment.
It is with this purpose and together with Dr. Buddhika Somawardena and Dr. Devinda Jayathilake, we have set up a fund to collect money to re-establish and renovate an old existing ward and convert it to a 36-bed facility principally providing care and treating patients suffering from leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. In other words, blood cancers.
Your support can not only help ease their pain but also provide comfort whilst being treated and provide the necessary equipment that is needed.
Some of For Lanka’s previous donations are given below;
• 2017 - 128 Wheelchairs donated to the Apeksha and other regional hospitals and 6 wheelchairs to the Kalutara Hospice
• 2018 - The very neglected toilet facility in the ladies’ ward was fully renovated with new fittings and shower facilities improved. 2 Morphine infusers costing $2500.00 each were donated, and it was the first time that such machines were used at the Apeksha Hospital for the management of pain by the terminally ill.
• 2019 - Following the success and demand for the Morphine infusers, For Lanka held a tremendously successful fundraiser dinner and donated 15 of these infusers including the regional hospitals, and held training sessions for all staff in the use of such machines.
• 2020 - Unfortunately Covid-19 restrictions prevented us from having a function
• 2021 - Renovation and re-establishment of a new ward for Haemato-Oncology and to provide the 3 Function beds and other necessary equipment.
We will continually update you on the progress and development of the new project and its usage by patients.
