The Owensboro Community is reaching out to family, friends, and businesses far and wide to come together and help a sweet 9-year-old young man and his family.
James suffers from a lifelong condition called Neurofibromatosis. James was diagnosed with this condition when he was only 6 months old. The condition takes no prisoners! It causes tumors to form in the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The behavioral, and neurological symptoms from his condition have already been so invasive in just nine years.
James has spent his short life in and out of hospitals treating symptoms of this condition. Recently it was discovered through a routine MRI, Doctors found the start of serious Scoliosis.
What does this mean for James?
He will have to have a growth rod placed in his spine; this will require surgery every 4 months to be adjusted. James has 10 long years of growing left meaning, 10 long years of surgeries. The family has run into an issue with their insurance company and they will not be paying the excess amount for the surgeries. As the family looks further into this and other alternatives, time is not on their hand. The Doctors must act swiftly.
A neurologist has ordered a MRI to be done August 6th. There is a risk that James has a tumor growing on his spinal cord, which could cause further complications and possible surgeries. These results will not be known until the day before James’s upcoming surgery.
The Family has to come up with a payment between $10,000-12,000; this is not including travel expenses and loss of income due to this tragic time. The surgery is scheduled for Aug 8th.
