Football Helmets for J.L. Long
Tax deductible
Why are we doing this?
On a recent tour of J.L. Long Middle School we came across the football helmets used by our 7th and 8th grade football team.
The helmets are old and do not provide satisfactory head protection.
The average age of the helmets is approximately 6 years old.
Concussion prevention technology in helmets has changed drastically in just the last 3 years.
Brain development continues up until your early 20'S (NIMH Study) and we need to protect the player's head from trauma.
Most of our team is financially unable to purchase their own helmet (or equipment).
What do we need?
We need to purchase 60 new helmets ranked either 4 or 5 stars on the Virginia Tech/Wake Forest helmet ratings found here.
Why isn't the school providing this?
Dallas Independent School District (D.I.S.D.) is limited in funding for new equipment. D.I.S.D. is the 14th largest school district in the U.S.
NOTE: The few new helmets provided by the district have not been rated by Virginia Tech/Wake Forest.
