Hello everyone. I just want to give some background regarding our Facebook group Lost and found pets all Sheffield areas.

My name is Sharni victoria I’m an admin of the group along with Lu Smith, Ryan Hancock Shauna, Wendy Wylie, Mavrick Wood and Henna Hussain.

I’m a volunteer who takes in cats/kittens that are either abandoned, straying, have owners who can no longer look after them, as well as sick and injured cats. I’m not linked to a rescue but we will often work together to save cats lives.

We also work with members of the public to trap injured cats as well as trapping, neutering and returning if feral, unless not safe to do. We find homes for every one we can, return to supported feral colonies (which we feed) or put into foster homes whilst they recover from surgery.

Neither the group or myself are a registered rescue and have never claimed to be. At the this moment in time, it seems to be the worst it's ever been for pets in the UK. Cats and kittens being born on the streets every day, owners handing over to rescues and fosters as they can no longer keep or simply can not afford the animals, dumped deceased animals, abused animals with awful injuries. We get messages from the public asking for our help every day.

Lu Smith is another admin on our group who helps assess, transport and place dogs into rescues that people can’t keep, often for heartbreaking reasons. Often the owners next step is to put them to sleep if Lu cannot help. Sharnii and Lu team up together to reach out to rescues to help with rescue spaces for dogs as both have years of experience in animal rescue.

All our admins on our lost and found group including myself and Lu are volunteers. We transport traps to catch stray cats, go out to scan lost animals, take injured animals to vets and also collect deceased cats that have been hit by cars and try to find their owners.

We are currently putting a fundraiser together for new trapping equipment, microchip scanners, carriers, pet food and preventative care. Also equipment for our emergency fosters and fuel to transport animals to safety (Lu has recently gone as far as Exeter and Norfolk when local rescues had no space and dogs were at risk of being put to sleep).

We will be providing receipts as proof.

If you are interested in becoming a scan volunteer for the group in Sheffield please message Sharnii Victoria on Facebook.
