Further to this, there is no government assistance or food relief assistance via public funds in either of these countries. In order to let them know that they’re not weathering this storm alone, we’re organizing this short fundraiser, in order to provide some food relief assistance to those in need.
As we are in the midst of a pandemic and numbers are still quite high in both Mexico and Guatemala, we will be distributing these funds via direct deposit to a select group of people in need on December 22, 2020. These include single mothers, the elderly, those that are currently struggling with medical costs related to COVID-19, along with a collective in Guatemala who are attempting to rebuild their lives after hurricane Eta devastated their region, with over 70 families losing their homes.
These groups are people that we work with directly and who we trust to use the funds for what is most needed by those who need it the most. That said, we are noting that it’s preferred that the funds are used for food relief.
This fundraising page is in Canadian dollars. As I am based in Mexico, which makes it difficult to navigate the Gofundme website, my brother is kindly helping me with the updates, as well as withdrawing the funds.
If you’re so inclined to provide some assistance to these communities in need, we will ensure that they’re distributed to vulnerable artisan communities in Mexico and Guatemala, so that they might have a bit of respite this holiday season.
Thank you for your generosity and your support – it’s much appreciated.
