There are however many expenses connected with running a rowing club. As a sports club functioning under the Campus Recreation department, we are entirely student-run and funded, with minimal financial support from the University relative to our regular operating costs. Every semester, we pay dues in order for us to train and compete across the Southeast and country. Therefore, we rely heavily on the support of friends, family, and alumni to help us raise money for capital improvements. This year, the team has the goal of purchasing two lightly used 8-man racing shells. For reference, a lightly used 8-man shell costs $20-25,000 each. While we have continued to train and compete at the highest levels despite being under-resourced relative to our competition, the team has a severe and immediate need for boat fleet improvements to put us in equipment that reflects the level of competition we seek to achieve and level the playing field. Currently our newest 8-man boat is from 2006, with our oldest being from 2002 and the many years of competition are certainly beginning to show.
This Fall, FSU Rowing will be hosting its annual Erg-a-Thon fundraiser. Prior to the event, we are asking for monetary donations of any amount to help towards our goal of raising $10,000 towards purchasing two new boats. The Erg-a-Thon event will be livestreamed on campus on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019, where we will join together as a team and row as many meters as possible. I hope that we can count on your support!
