Hello family, friends & friends of both.
Our parents were evacuated from their home in Wallace, N.C. due to Hurricane Florence. They are safe and just returned from San Diego to their home to see the damage. Due to extreme flooding, their home was underwater between 2-5 ft in different spots and they cannot live in it due to the mold infestation. They're currently staying with friends, indefinitely, until they figure out a plan. Unfortunately, they did not have flood insurance and therefore nothing will be covered. The rationale to not acquire flood insurance upon building there was because they were above the "100 year flood level plain". This particular natural disaster placed their house within the "500 year flood level".
It will take a lot of manual labor and cost to rebuild, repair and replace what has been damaged or lost. Currently, that's the entire first floor of their home, all systems and personal belongings representing our life over decades. I am a little bit happy that some awkward photos of Michael were lost, but that's neither here nor there. They're not sure where to begin or when they will be able to based on FEMA, power issues and ability to get contractors on board. If those stars don't align, an entirely different decision may be in play.
If there's anything you can to do to help financially with their burden, we'd be extremely grateful. We are blessed that they are safe and hope they can return to their beautiful home soon.

P.S. We rebellious kids have created this fund without knowledge nor support of our parents, since we knew that if we offered to help in this way they would've declined. We're hoping to prove them wrong in that family and friends can help. So, sorry not sorry, parental units.
