Flood Relief for OIS

Dear Parents, Students, Alumni, Friends and Supporters of OIS,

As many of you may know, our school recently experienced not one, but TWO, devastating floods that caused significant damage to many of our departments. Unfortunately, our insurance will only cover building damage, not the damaged equipment and items that our students use on a daily basis.

We have been so touched to see how many parents are looking for a way to donate towards rebuilding what was lost, and so have created this space for us to come together as a community in this act of collective generosity.

All financial support (no matter how big or small) will be invested in replacing the damaged items linked to learning. For those of you who are ex-students/families, you will know how much love Barbara Castro invested in fundraising to create her wonderfully creative Music Department. This flood has taken her (us) almost back to square 1! The biggest expense is replacing the damaged pianos and sound equipment. Pedro Zamith’s art department suffered loss in the form of books, furniture and easels. The other area of considerable damage was to João Cheira’s PHE and Sports Science Department.

Please know that your donation is completely voluntary, and remember that our school is a non-profit institution.

If you wish to donate, you can use this page or transfer funds directly to OEIRAS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL ASFL, PT50 0269 0665 00208375012 77 with the description of the transfer as 'FLOOD RELIEF'.

For companies that donate, you can contact our accounts department to obtain a receipt.

We have been lobbying for a dam to be built upstream to prevent this kind of damage to our school, and hope that these two floods will now at least act as a catalyst to push for the final approval from the Câmara.
