What we do:
Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center has been rehabilitating wildlife and providing educational outreach programs for 38 years. Founded by Dr. Jeannie Lord and her family, this non-profit specializes in predatory mammals, reptiles and birds of prey. As a volunteer organization, Pine View receives no federal or state funds. Membership donations assist in the budget required to meet the needs of the patients, to include medical supplies, food, and patient enclosures.
Team Effort:
From the rescues to the rehabilitation of incoming wounded, 25 volunteers and 2 ½ paid staff work 365 days a year to ensure quality care and a release back to the wild of the patients. Veterinarians provide additional medical needs. This team of dedicated individuals is essential to the continued growth of the hospital and the ability to meet the goals of the hospital and educational center.
Why the request for support? The number of birds of prey admitted over the last few years has increased. In 2015, the number of owls, hawks, eagles, and falcons requiring rehabilitation reached 125. As a result of a 25 year old flight cage that is deteriorating, there was a backup of birds needing to use the remaining one flight cage. We are in need to build another flight cage as soon as possible. Estimated cost for the new flight cage is $22,000.00. Without a new enclosure, we cannot provide the necessary space for birds to exercise and prepare for release.
