So You Think You Can Judge Me

            Some writers are taught. Others are born.

After realizing her unique writing abilities in the sixth grade, Victoria Sharpe had not only found her passion—she had found her purpose. Excited to entertain her friends on paper, she passed her writings around the school for her peers to enjoy. Even at her early age, she received an overwhelming response from her elementary classmates, giving her the push she needed to pursue the dream wholeheartedly. Whereas most people use life’s issues as a reason to fail, Sharpe uses them as a reason to soar.

By the time she entered college, she was writing, directing and producing stage plays for the student body of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. With sponsorship from her university, coupled with her personal funds, she was able to produce four stage plays as an undergraduate: “Man is My Name” (co-writer), “Nothing More to Give,” “Harlem Made Me This Way” and “Born A Problem.”

The productions were a huge success and the entire student body became fanatics. After graduating in May of 2012, she returned to Detroit and wrote the critically acclaimed stage play, “After Sunday,” which she produced in November of 2012! But she didn’t stop there. Sharpe then wrote, directed and produced, “So You Think You Can Judge Me?” in August of 2013. Both shows ran to sold-out audiences. After founding Destiny’s Novel Productions in March of 2013, she is no longer chasing her dreams and vision. She lives and walks in them daily.

But the vision is so much larger than her.

As a matter of fact, it’s the size of Detroit. That’s right. Through her productions and philanthropic efforts, she hopes to collate the community in which she was raised.  She aspires to rebuild Detroit in the areas of the arts and creative talent—restoring thousands back to their original first love. 

Complete with her Bachelor of Arts in English, Victoria Sharpe may be small in stature, but her dreams and spirit of determination are giants. The greatest gifts often come in small packages. She’s no different.

 Through my productions, I not only seek to entertain audiences. I strive to empower men and women worldwide to live their dreams today. Attendees often leave inspired to dream greater, push harder and maximize their potential in their area of expertise. Both of my recent productions, “After Sunday” (November 2012) and “So You Think You Can Judge Me?” (August 2013) opened to sold-out audiences and yielded standing ovations. My goal is to exceed the standard of which we set for ourselves.

I will be producing “So You Think You Can Judge Me?” again on December 13-14, 2014 at the YMCA Boll Theater in downtown Detroit. The show is bigger and better than last time! Because of the high-quality producing and writing, along with a stellar cast, I am certain this play will be talked about long after the curtain has closed.

 The success of my productions would not be the same had it not been for sponsors I’ve been connected to and the unlimited support from my family and friends. From marketing and promotions to the building of the set and theatre rental, successful productions come with a cost long before the first ticket is sold. The budget for this production is set at $7, 000. This will cover the cost of the venue, the set, the advertisements, the cast, the music director, and so much more!
