Michael’s Miracle Fund

On Friday, July 20, 2018 our worst nightmare came true. We were driving home from the hospital with a 3 day old baby in the car. When we reached our driveway we got a call that we needed to rush over to the hospital as our father went into cardiac arrest after what should have been a simple procedure called an epidural. We were told by the hospitalists that my dad was brain dead and we needed to let him go. We refused to believe this and knew we had to pray and hope for a miracle as our dad is one of the strongest men we know. A week went by and the man they told us was brain dead started proving the doctors wrong. While he is not yet responsive he is opening his eyes and making some movements. He has more inner fight, courage, and toughness than anyone we know. We are fighting for him on the outside and we know that he is fighting on the inside. We have a long journey ahead of us but we will be by our dad’s side every step of the way. Our dads journey will probably take up to two years and can cost up to a million dollars or more most of which is not covered by insurance. This money will go towards medical transport, rehabilitation, medical aides, doctors, nurses, medicine, respiratory therapy, physical and occupational therapy, housing to help his family wherever in the country his rehabilitation facility is and much more. The hospital just wants us to put him in a nursing home and give up on him but we will never do that as he would never do that to his family. Our dad means everything to us!!! We would do anything for him!!! That is why we are looking into brain injury rehabilitation centers around the country where he can get the best care. Anyone who knows our dad knows that he is the most kind and generous man you have ever met. He never thinks about himself and always puts his family first. He is a brilliant writer, publisher and musician and have quietly saved thousands of peoples jobs over the years without wanting any credit. He is a silent hero. He literally saved his daughters life many times and would spend days on end with her at the hospital despite the pain he lived in from ruptured discs in his neck. It was never about him. Everything is about his family and helping others. He lives to help others. That is his mission in life and he is not done fighting. We are asking for your help to give our father the best chance possible at recovery. He has helped so many people in his life and now we are reaching out and pleading for help for him!!
