I'm not one to ask for help. I'd much rather be the one giving than receiving. However, I have tried everything else and now must admit that I need to rely on the generosity and assistance of friends, family and even strangers.
From childhood through to my early adult year (18), I underwent 3 spinal operations. I was told I was good to go and live a normal life. Now, I'm nearly in my 30's and I have come to find out that I won't live a "normal" life. Not without spinal treatments and/or surgeries. The stress of a fused spine has caused the non-fused bones above and below to further deteriorate and otherwise continue in their deformities. What started with advanced scoliosis has now led to degenerative discs, a slipped disc, pinched nerves, spinal stenosis, and hyper tension in the neck. The bones in my neck have also begun to curve unnaturally and need correction.
The side effects of these deformities are progressively getting worse. I stopped treatments after losing my job and insurance this year. Since then, I have suffered from moderate to severe headaches and migraines. I have lost my sense of balance. I have to cope with chronic, daily pain. To top it all off, I'm facing new things that happen without warning. I turn my neck and suddenly I'm feeling lightheaded. Too long, and I will be passing out. It makes looking behind me while driving, difficult. I have numbness and tingling sensations in my hands and feet. Restless leg kicks in with the pain, keeping me awake most nights.
So I have decided that I need to get treatment and possibly surgery. However, I still am unable to find a job and have no insurance. Everything will have to be out of pocket. At least until I can get back to somewhat normal and hopefully get insurance. My goal, is to start with an updated diagnosis and treatments. I can't take care of my family, if I first don't take care of myself. A hard thing to do when caring for others is all I live for. But I can't leave my husband and 4 children without assistance. All funds that I receive from this, will be used to seek medical treatments only.
