First-Year Teacher Needs Basic Supplies!

Donation protected
Hello, everyone!

August 12th will be the first day of school at Thelma R. Parks Elementary in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! While this school has historically been a heavily low-income, high-need school, I am excited about the tremendous energy surrounding this next year. Administrators, teachers like myself, and so many amazing organization and family partners have banded together to try and make important changes to the way our school serves this community.

My mission in moving to Oklahoma was to do what I could to work with others to make equitable access to an excellent education a reality for ALL students. Funding is tight in schools around the country, but such problems are especially acute in segregated, low-income communities like the one served by Parks. While I have been fortunate to receive a lot of support from my school and others, much of the burden of creating a safe, joyful, and productive classroom, stocked with the necessary materials to bring out the best in kids, has fallen to me.

Because I haven't yet received a paycheck for the past two months of work, and because the start of the school year is right around the corner, I am reaching out to my amazing network of friends, family, and colleagues, asking for your generosity and support to help me reach my $500 goal! ANY AMOUNT HELPS, and will assist me in bringing much-needed resources to deserving kids who want to succeed.

Your contribution will go towards:

-general supplies
-an electric pencil sharpener
-chart paper
-a projector and speakers, to help give students access to visual lessons and online content
-a rug and pillows, for students to use during quiet reading
-whiteboard magnets
-chart paper
-binder clips

...and a whole lot more!

And, to those who cannot afford to pitch in at this moment in time, you can help out a LOT just by sharing this campaign with others and spreading the word!

Thank you for helping me advance the cause of educational equity in my classroom. Your impact will be sincerely felt where it is truly needed.
