Miami Kids Mission to Cuba 2017

Mission trips are all about service, team building and finding God in the midst of the ordinary. This year the Cuban Evolution Foundation will sponsor its first Mission trip to Santiago de Cuba, July 29th through August 5th 2017. This mission will bring three Cuban American families to Sagrada Familia Catholic Church in Vista Alegre, Santiago de Cuba for and encounter with Cuban families and their children. We will work together for a week of service, conversation, and discovery after 58 years of isolation, propaganda, and all kinds of hardship.
Founded by Dr. Elsie Miranda in 2015, Cuban Evolution Foundation, a non-for-profit corp. whose mission is to promote critical consciousness, and human dignity through education, the arts and Christian ministerial praxis. She believes that investing in the next generation of Cuban leaders will generate fundamental changes in society and allow for a more liberative practical reality to take root. Because we want to be part of the change that makes the world a better place—we signed on for this adventure.
As Cuban American kids we have grown up listening to all kinds of stories about Cuba. Some are great and many are painful. So we want to see Cuba for ourselves and we want to make a difference in the lives of kids who have been denied learning about God, and who never had a chance to play and dream the way we have.
We want to visit the country where our grandparents grew up and our parents were denied visiting. We also want to learn from the Cuban people and build bridges of friendship across the Florida Straits, that can only be traveled by encountering in the other, friends we never knew we had.
In order to make the most of this mission we need your support. As a group we are committed to providing the families at the Catholic Parish Sagrada Familia with school supplies for a tutoring program; a Children’s Library that will require books (mostly in Spanish, some in English)and DVD’s (G, PG or PG 13); Sports equipment (mostly soccer); and table games that promote strategic thinking, creativity and imagination such as Chess, Risk, Checkers, Backgammon, Connect Four and Parcheesi. In order to suppor Father Dominguez’s Pastoral work within the neighboring communities we will also be taking basic medical supplies that are not available to many of the elderly and poor who cannot travel to clinics because they live in remote locations.
With your contribution we can purchase:
· Soccer Equipment
· Books & DVD’s
· Chess Games, Timers and other Games sets
· Religious articles such as Bibles, rosaries and catechetical books
· Medical supplies
We believe that God calls us to see, to share, to learn and to give thanks for the blessings that emerge through the sacrifices and the struggles the speckle Cuban history. Upon our return we will share our pictures and stories with you because only together we will make this mission extraordinary.
