First Light Farm to Food Bank Crowdfundraiser

Donation protected
UPDATE: We are now accepting more donations! Since we are growing on new soil this year, we didn't want to bite off more than we could grow, so to speak; however, we have had a really productive season, and have been bringing a bounty of produce to the food bank 2-3 times per week since late May and we have nearly matched the initial $5847 raised  with the equivalent value of our veggies!

Thanks to our local and online community. It feels wonderful growing, cleaning, and dropping off beautiful and fresh veggies to supplement what is available from grocery store food recovery AND everyone at the food bank, volunteers and clients get so excited when they lay eyes on our veggies.

The growing season isn't done yet and we have the ability to continue delivering more produce as our next successions of crops become ready for harvest! That's why we are opening up the crowd-funding campaign again.

Support our neighbours who depend on the Community Connections Food Bank and a local farm at the same time!

It's been one year since we started First Light Farm; to celebrate we launched our annual crowd-fundraiser because we want everyone in our community to have access to nutritious, fresh food grown right here in Revelstoke. This year, we'd like to support the Community Connections' Food Bank by raising $8000!

The way this works:
Donate what you can, and we will deliver the equivalent value of our best-quality fresh veggies to the food bank through the Spring, Summer & Fall.

Who we are:
First Light Farm is a market garden that we started one year ago on borrowed land south of the Revelstoke Airport. Chris and I (Jesse), grow a large variety of vegetables from sweet carrots, beets and potatoes true to the history of this valley, and we also grow the more delicate baby greens, cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes using organic methods all along the way.

You can find us at 2009 Big Eddy Rd. behind our farm stand and we work all day, or on Saturdays at the farmer's market and on the menu at many of our locally owned restaurants in the spring, summer, and fall.

Why we are doing this fundraiser:
Last year the pandemic inspired us to launch a farm business when we recognized that this virus could affect our access to food in Revelstoke; and it has. We began our farm to help feed Revelstoke, and it's very important to us that our produce is accessible to everyone in our community.

The Community Connections' Food Bank had a 68% increase in clients when the pandemic began in March 2020. Currently, they have a client base of 580 individuals, 136 of which are children and 53 seniors. They serve these neighbours and friends of ours three times a week and also deliver a number of hampers to those who can't make it in person to the food bank.

The food bank can always use more fresh, nutritious food for our community especially beautiful freshly harvested food that is not second-rate. We have planned to grow this amount of food for them specifically, and will be harvesting it when it is ready to go directly to the food bank.  We really want our neighbours to have access to quality food that we are proud of and we work closely with the Community Connections Food Bank to make sure we grow what is needed and appreciated.

We need your help to supply a really substantial amount of food for our most vulnerable citizens. The added bonus is, supporting local farms helps to build our food system resilience and community.

Will you pitch in to hit our $8000 goal? Every little bit will help, if you can share this with another person, that will be a huge help too.

It means the world to us to be supported by our community and to be able to provide the freshest food to everyone.

Thank you!

Jesse & Chris
