Firefighter with cancer

Donation protected
As many know after the news last night everyone knows my continued struggle with this disease and the continuing cost associated with it. I wanted to share a bit more of my story. I am a married father of 6 children. While working at the fire dept 4 years ago during live fire training i thought i pulled a muscle. Thinking nothing of it I finished out the day. The pain was worse in the morning so I decided not to go to my 2nd job that day. Finally i went to the doctor and they said that i will need to go to rehab for my back since i felt no better after a week. I finished up 3 months of rehab with the pain and told the doctor i still had pain. They sent me to a back specialist who finally did a scan on my back to find that i had a crushed vertebrae, He scheduled surgery and at the same time did a biopsy to try and figure out why a healthy young man would have this type of injury from a low stress impact. That's when i first found out about my cancer. I suddenly had a team of doctors and lots of medication to take. We attacked the cancer with everything. During my year off from work I had a stem cell transplant that hit me very hard. Took 3 months to finally get to eat some food. Lost a ton of weight and all my hair. I had developed nephropathy in my hands and feet. Having socks on felt like razors. So this meant more medicine of course. I now was up to 15 pills in the morning to get started. Fast forward to this year. We have been hit hard by medical bills. My wife is also having some medical issues as we are unsure if she has lupus or crohn's disease yet as we are going through the tests now. I take chemo everyday along with all the other pills. My sense of taste is off, my nerves are all over the place and now a shower can feel like knives sometimes. My feet are always in pain and feel like walking on shards of glass. I do get tired some days and its very hard to get up. I have tried to go back to working a 2nd job to help pay for the medicine and co pays for doctors visits. I just am not able to do 140 hours a week like i did before i got sick. I don't like asking anyone for money or anything that i didn't earn but sometimes i have to swallow my pride and just ask. Since i have been sick when i can not make it to work I do not get paid because because I don't have enough time saved up. I had exhausted it while i was on leave my first year off. This news story i did because i don't want other families to struggle the way we have from something we catch on the job. I hope this brings better legislation to help others after me. I just want to say thank you to everyone for your continued prayers and well wishes.  They mean so much to our family.
