DC Fire & Relocation

A friend texted me near midnight and told me that my house was going up in flames. I called my roommate in a panic to make sure that he was okay, and he told me that he was able to make it out in time to save himself and my dog. Everything I owned, however, did not make it out. I stood on the sidewalk and watched as the fire burned away memories, keepsakes, and things I had gained after spending years trying to find my place in society as an honest, hard working individual. With the lives of my friend and my dog spared, I consider myself fortunate, but, to be honest, picking up the pieces and having to start over from nothing seems daunting and at times, overwhelming. Because of the extensive damage to the framework of the house, it has been deemed uninhabitable while it is undergoing repairs. Between the cost of staying in a hotel for the next month and the cost of trying to replace the things I lost, I’ve become financially stretched far beyond what I was prepared for, so, humbly, I’m asking for help. If you’re able to give anything, I would genuinely, genuinely appreciate your kindness. If you’re not, I appreciate you taking the time to hear me out. Either way, thank you for who you are and what you’ve been to me this far.
