The Pacific Peace 2020 (PP2020) Film Production team is asking for your financial support to raise another $30,000 to finish the Norfolk Island documentary about the Norfolk Island People. If you can assist us by November 2021 that would be very much appreciated. All donations will be deposited into the Norfolk Island RSL Sub Branch Museum account specifically for the film production.
During 2020 Norfolk Island People commemorated 75 years of Peace in the Pacific and were very Honoured to receive from Her Majesty the Queen Her Best Wishes to all those participating in the celebrations for a most successful and memorable event.
Owing to COVID safety rules the international event originally planned for August 2020 reverted to a very successful local event. The local community and other corporate friends of the Commonwealth along with the local Council and DVA Grants provided financial support to ensure that the event proceeded.
The total financial support for the filming to date has been approx $35,000. The NI RSL Sub Branch was also assisted with financial donations of approx $23,000 to support local volunteers to construct a Military Museum located beneath the NI RSL Club.
There was only one thing missing for Pacific Peace 2020. The PP2020 Strategic Plan included filming a documentary during the Victory in the Pacific (VP) commemorations in August 2020. David Bradbury of Frontline Films was engaged to film the commemoration event and to encapsulate the incredible contribution by Norfolk Islanders for all wars and conflicts; in particular, WWI and WWII. David Bradbury could not get to Norfolk in August last year but has since visited for Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving Day, Foundation Day, Kapyong Day, ANZAC Day, and Anniversary (Bounty) Day.
Our own Chelsea Evans wrote 12 tiles for the Norfolk Story and David Bradbury has completed many hours of filming. His filming has combined the commemorative events and the wonderful history and culture of the Norfolk Island people demonstrating why they are unique and blessed with an incredible history of survival and culture. There were so many incredible Norfolk Islanders who gave their time and told their stories as told by their forebears and their own experiences. Simply amazing and so full of love, passion, culture, language, and poetry. David has completed the filming and it is in 'the can' ready for final editing, mixing and narration.
The film will not only tell the Norfolk Island story about her history and people; it will also align with the local Council Strategic Plan for tourism and economic benefits. It is anticipated that the final product will be 60 minutes in length including the acknowledgments and deliberately marketed for commercial screening. It is anticipated to finish the production early 2022 with a complementary viewing TBC. COVID lockdowns in NSW is a reason for delay but not an excuse.
