This is a success story I want to share with everyone. A little more than a week ago, I launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,730 for thirty new Chromebooks for the students in my classroom. In four days, we raised the full amount. Astounding!
I also need to say "Thank you" to the folks at GoFundMe for creating this wonderful venue.
Paisley IB Magnet School is a success story among inner-city schools. We are growing to such an extent that we expect to open our new school in 2020 at capacity with an initial enrollment of 1000 students.
However, this coming fall we will have the largest Year One, sixth grade, ever. Such growth is stretching our technology to its limits. Because enrollment has doubled in the past ten years, we don't have enough computers to put a unit in the hands of each student in each class.
We must routinely share our technology! That means that every day some students must go without computers in their classes. I want a Chromebook available to each student in my English I and II sections.
My goal is to fill the cart in my room with 30 new Chromebooks next fall. This will put a computer in the hands of each student in each of my six sections of English I and II. All funds raised will go directly to the school for the purchase of these new computers.
In the past three years, students my classes have been transitioning from print media to the Internet. With this wonderful new world of technology, in addition to our texts, a multitude of resources and many study aids will be at the students' fingertips.
A single Chromebook costs $191, substantial savings from the cost of a standard laptop. Because we reached our goal in four days, let's shoot for the whole amount, $5730. Currently, $845 are not funded. I will reimburse the $468 (7.9% fee + $.30) Gofundme.com deducts or charges from/for each donation. My final check to the school means 100% of your donations will go the purchase of the Chromebooks and no money will be needed from Paisley's annual budget.
