Filipino Books Beyond Borders

Hello everyone! I hope you're reading this message in good health. I am a Preschool Blended Classroom Learning Behavior Specialist at Lowell Elementary School. I am originally from the Philippines and am currently in the International Teacher Program of Chicago Public Schools.

 

Since I came here to Chicago, I've been a patron of Chicago Public Libraries. I visit the library for personal reading time and to borrow books and other references for my students. Visiting public libraries has been an essential part of my personal and professional growth, thanks to their incredible and numerous resources. With your help and kind heart, through this fundraiser, I want to give back by donating Filipino children's books to one of the public libraries here.

 

Why Filipino books? I highly believe that there are many Filipino kids here in Chicago. Maybe they have migrated from the Philippines or were born and raised here. It would be great for them to have access to more books that would remind them of Filipino culture and identity and gain a deeper understanding of both. More than that, these books will open up the world even beyond Filipino children. It will also foster an appreciation of cultural differences and offer newfound perspectives on life at their homes.

 

The books will be shipped from the Philippines through Pumplepie Books and Happiness (https://pumplepie.com/). Pumplepie is a curated selection of Filipino children's books for the young and the young at heart initiated by a good friend of mine. Her name is Alexine Parreno.
