His Story
Luca is my almost-3-year-old nephew, a precious young boy who lives in my home country of Romania. On December 12th of this year, little Luca was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL), a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. He is scheduled to begin chemotherapy immediately in attempts to halt the progression of this disease, but medical care in Romania is sorely lacking, resulting in his chances of survival being very slim. This type of Leukemia progresses quickly if not treated, and Luca's doctors have stated he may only have a month to live if he does not receive immediate treatment.
Our Plan
We would like to relocate Luca and his parents to the United States so he can get more appropriate care. Romania is a poor country, and the resources provided by the government are extremely limited. Luca's parents both work, however wages in Romania are very meager, with an average salary of only about $5,000 per year. They cannot afford much in the way of specialized medical care. Because of this, bringing Luca to the United States gives him his best hope for treatment and survival.
Our family here in the United States will be able to house and care for Luca and his parents, as we live in an area of the country that is home to some of the best medical care in the world. Coming to America would allow him a chance at life that is simply not possible in Romania.
The Problem
Unfortunately, Luca is currently too sick to travel, so we must first wait for him to go through a six-week cycle of chemotherapy in Romania and hope that his health improves enough to safely travel.
How You Can Help
We need to raise money as soon as possible to bring Luca and his parents to the United States, help support his ongoing cancer treatment, as well as pay for his medical expenses starting right away.
At just two years of age, Luca has barely begun to explore life, but he deserves every chance to live a long, healthy, and loving life. Our family will continue to do everything we can for him, and we hope that others are compelled to give and help us in this mission.
