My name is Bingnan Sun, 40 years old. I am living in Dublin for the past 18 years with my husband and my little daughter who is turning four in Sept.
I was diagnosed with a Squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix in Oct 2014, following the birth of my baby girl. I attended treatment with chemotherapy and pelvic radiotherapy which I completed in Jan 2015. I have been attending follow up with both my radiation oncologist and gynecological oncology. I thought I was free of cancer and felt such relief that I could get on and raise my little girl. Sadly a follow up MRI scan at St-Vincent’s University Hospital in April last year confirmed a recurrence of cancer. I was devastated not just for me but for my beautiful baby girl as I wondered would I live to see her grow up.
My case was reviewed at the gynae-oncology multi-disciplinary team meeting in mid June 2017, due to the size of the recurrent mass and spread through to the peritoneum it was not advisable to perform surgery as a clear surgical margin could not be attained at the time. I went through 6 more cycles of chemotherapy every 21 days and reassessed with radiological imaging with a view to considering surgery or maintenance systemic treatment. After these 6 cycles of Chemotherapy, the tumor responded to the treatment well but I was still not being considering for an operation. Early this year, my medical oncologist gave me another session of chemotherapy and was hoping my cancer would respond so an operation can be performed to remove the tumor. Unfortunately the tumor didn’t respond to the treatment and it seems in progressing again. I was told the operation is not an option for me.
I am now seeking all possible ways to make me have opportunity to live to see my little girl grow up.
I am looking for help with funding so I can go to the USA for treatments. I would be beyond greatful for any help you can give and appreciate your help from the bottom of my heart.
