Vision is priceless

Labor Day 2020 my nephew spent the early morning hours in a 4 hour surgery to save his right eye after and open globe rupture from a terrible accident  with an explosion in which he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. 

He is now entering into the 4th week of living without vision in his right eye.  He has been so brave and positive thus far on this new journey surrounded by much love and prayer along the way.  We know there will be many short and long term challenges as his journey continues. 

My sister is nothing short of amazing - basically a single mother working to live as an ICU nurse during unprecedented times with the pandemic and now juggling traveling 4 hours round trip weekly to Will's Eye for appointments and upcoming surgeries.  First surgery to save the globe- success!  Next up - vitrectomy to drain the blood and see what the vision potential will be (currently he is unable to see anything) then to determine if reconstruction will be needed.
