Hi there! My name is Gabby and I am 18 years old and a senior at Palo Verde High School. I was born with congenital cataracts in my right eye which caused glaucoma. At just two weeks old I was scheduled for my first surgery. Since then I have had over 25 different eye surgeries from muscle correction to a prothesis lens implant to scar tissue removal on my eyes. Because of all of these surgeries, I have damage to my cornea and iris, as well as scar tissue covereing most of my lens. This has left me with almost no sight and very noticable discoloration to my right eye, as well as a disfigured iris. I was recently given the opportunity to have an amazing three-in-one surgery to replace my cornea (which is so damaged it must be replaced), take out existing scar tissue that causes some of my vision problems, and to insert an artificial colored iris which will make my eyes look less disfigured and the same color again (see the pictures below)! Since the time I was in elementary school I have always had self-esteem issues in connection to my eyes and to this day, I still at times, have to try extra hard to feel pretty and have self-confidence. Although I have always painted on a smile and had a positive outlook, I know it will be indescribable to have eyes of the same color with improved vision. I have wished for an opportunity such as this for longer than I can remember and it would mean the world to me if you could help me get to my goal! It is so exciting for me to finally be so close to the one thing I have always wanted! I have an unbelievable team of doctors behind me for this surgery including opthamologist Dr. Samuel Masket, but it will be an extremely costly surgery and one that my family cannot afford without fundraising. Any sort of donation will help, every little bit will get me closer to my goal. Thank you so so so much!
