Wheels for Wheels is an initiative that will help us provide free or subsidized transportation for disabled persons. Many government and insurance transportation programs only provide wheelchair lift support for doctor appointments or other official business. Wheelchair lift or medical transportation for shopping, social events, or recreational events such as going to the movies or to the county fair are almost always cost prohibitive. Therefore, severely disabled persons are often forced to stay in their home or care facility without much of a social life.
The goal of $80,000 for Wheels for Wheels will enable us to use three wheelchair lift vehicles, one special recreational vehicle for longer trips, and a variety of other special transportation needs. The initiative has already secured a long term sustaining commitment of $2000 per month for insurance, fuel, and maintenance needs. The Master’s Transport Ministry is prepared to provide drivers at no cost for these vehicles. The ministry will also coordinate all maintenance requirements. The dollars donated through this initiative will go directly to the purchase of vehicles.
Consider what it is like to go somewhere simple like shopping, to the mall, the movies, or the county fair. Consider if you or a loved one had to rely on special purpose vehicles for transportation. Now imagine a $60.00 to $100.00 taxi fare for the special vans with wheelchair lifts. We want to provide the ability to travel and enjoy life to the fullest without that expensive fare for those that must use a wheelchair. This initiative can make that possible for many in our area free of charge.
Consider donating now, any amount you give will be greatly appreciated and any donation over $100.00 or more received before October 24th will have their name and/or business posted on the golf course where we will are hosting another fund raising event.
