My wife and I were woken up just before 4am on Saturday (Oct. 4th) by the smell of smoke, quickly realizing our apartment was on fire.

We did our best to get everyone out of the building.  Banging/kicking doors to make sure people were able to get out in time.  Everyone made it out safely, but as we returned to try and get some of our things, it was too dangerous to enter the building.  We lost everything.

We have been blessed with love and prayers this weekend from people near and far.  We have had so many calls and texts we haven't been able to return them all.  We are creating this fund for people who want to help us get back on our feet.  Any help you can give will make a huge difference for us.

Reality Check:  

We were able to get our license, socials, and marriage certificate.  Rushing to get everyone out, we left: our savings, car keys, wedding keepsakes, and everything else behind.  As of 4:10a.m. yesterday morning, we own 1 dog, 2 pairs of shoes, a bathrobe, and 2 shirts.

The Red Cross has provided us with soap, and helped us get clothes to wear.  A friend is letting us stay with them as we collect ourselves and find a new place to call home.

There is some silver lining:

We are both employed, have 2 vehicles, and close friends and family.  I have no doubt that in the coming months as the pieces fall back together, some of the tears will be replaced with laughter.  Eventually, the memories and keepsakes lost will be replaced by new memories and friends created through this dark time.
