50x10. A story about Tech For Kids

Tax deductible
50 computers x 10 computer labs = 500 computers.

500 Computers by September 2019.

That is the goal.

In a world that is becoming more interconnected as a result of the digital revolution, understanding and using techonolgy at the most elementry level is crucial in bulding and sustaining our quality of life.

This story begins back in December of 2017 when the Fisiy Foundation and Leadership Center (FFLC) soft launched its Tech Literacy for Youths initiative in a rural community in Cameroon, a country in central Africa.

We created this program because we saw that there was a gap in the type of education kids in emerging economies, such as Cameroon, were receiving at the rural community level.

These kids - who were deeply curious about technology and engaging with the world wide web - didn't have access to computers or basic computer skills classes. But they were hungry for the access and knowledge.

With this need in mind, the Tech Literacy program was designed as a 5 phase program geared towards youths entering secondary school (Middle and High school). The program is being rolled out in a series of summer camps, with each phase delving deeper into the subject matter; going from computer skills 101 to Coding and App development.

For students who successfully complete the program, the goal is to carry out a certification exercise at the end of the program, which would open up new pathways into the labor market and/or specialized training in programming and data management.

The soft-launch event in December was planned for an audience of 30 kids. But we were overwhelmed with the outpouring of community support and an audience of over 150 kids. This past June, we fully launched our first phase and capped our registration at 63 students, with a waiting list of about 40 students. The foundation realized that to address the issue surrounding the great demand for the program, a partnership with the local schools would have to be formed so that the program would eventually become a part of the school curriculum.

To ensure the longterm sustainability of the Tech Literacy for Youths program, the Fisiy Foundation will be partnering with local secondary and high schools to build 10 libraries and computer labs with 50 computers each.

The goal is to get 50 computers per computer lab for 10 computer labs.

$250 equals the purchase of 1 computer.
We need to raise $125,000 to make this happen.

We are doing this because we believe that at the end of the day, every young person should be armed with the skill set to build a life worth living.

A big THANK YOU to all of our supporters that have made all of our work feasible. Without you, it would not have been possible.
