Support Mehdi's Kidney Transplant!

Donation protected
In September of 2013, Mehdi suffered an aortic dissection (a tear in the inner layer of the large blood vessel branching off the heart). He was bleeding internally and needed immediate surgery.  He was flown by helicopter to Saint Mary’s Hospital, 60 miles away in Grand Junction and rushed into surgery. The surgery was a miraculous success thanks to the exceptional Dr. Lapkin!  Unfortunately the severe blood loss had caused renal failure.  Mehdi has been on dialysis while awaiting a life-saving kidney transplant.

Now for the good news!  After almost 3 years on the waiting list through the University of Utah in Salt Lake City we have recently been told to be ready for that transplant!  We could get the call any day now.

Mehdi needs this transplant!  It's a very serious surgery, and while our health insurance will thankfully cover the transplant, there are many aspects of care and recovery which are not covered by insurance. These costs include 2 months of lodging/food in Salt Lake City within minutes of the hospital, medical and prescription copays, regular travel and lodging from Montrose to Salt Lake for a year after the surgery, and much more.  For the first year after a transplant, a patient remains at high risk for rejection, and there are many costs associated with monitoring and guarding against this, as well as with recuperation in other ways.  After-care is crucial, and it's expensive.

Mehdi’s transplant team have advised that we should have a large contingency fund in place which can be put towards these costs. The sums are beyond what we can accumulate ourselves, so I'm setting up this fundraising campaign to support a successful transplant and recovery.  Please give what you can and spread the word.

Mehdi is an amazing man!
He’s a loving husband and father, and a generous contributor to our community through volunteering with youth soccer.  We need him to stay with us all for years to come.  While he has always been a giver, it was a challenge for Mehdi to ask for and accept help in support of his transplant.  We are grateful for the beloved friends who helped Mehdi understand that it is a blessing to both give and receive.

Our family thanks you all for your prayers and support
and we look forward to posting regular updates on his transplant and recovery.
