Julie "Shea" Frazier Fundraiser

Donation protected
Our Beloved Sister, Julie “Shea” Frazier contracted Lyme Disease on her 30th birthday in May, 1988, it has proven to be the gift that keeps on giving. Despite her being employed at a hospital in Kansas City, MO at the time & having a very defined BULLSEYE RASH, three elevated Lyme Titer Blood Tests among many other symptoms, the Doctors failed to recognize what they were seeing was Lyme Disease because as far as they were concerned it didn’t exist in Missouri. Bill & Julie did their own research & found Dr. Masters in Cape Girardeau, MO who had become an expert in the field of Lyme Disease. Bill & Julie took their new found information to the Infectious Disease Doctors and asked that they contact Dr. Masters. With much hesitation on the part of the Infectious Disease Doctors, they finally contacted Dr. Masters. Within a couple of hours Julie was on IV Antibiotics. This treatment continued for a minimum of 6 weeks and then again several times over the years. Unfortunately by the time the Doctors started the treatment the damage was done. The treatment needed to counteract Lyme Disease needs to be initiated as soon as possible for the individual to have any chance of being completely cured. In Julie’s case, the spirochetes had already broken through the blood brain barrier due to the delay in treatment. From this point on, she has become a “Chronic Lyme Disease” victim. The spirochetes multiply and are heavily protected by a biofilm as they lie dormant in the body ready to attack again at any time. (Spirochetes: genus of bacteria, any of an order of slender spirally undulating bacteria including those causing Syphilis and Lyme Disease)

Chronic Lyme carries a multitude of health risks & conditions. It mimics over 350 other diseases and you can have several co-infections in addition to Lyme from one bite. Julie has gone for 26 years silently fighting this horrible, debilitating disease never knowing for sure what the next symptom will be. It affects the central nervous system and essentially is attacking her immune system & other organs. For the last couple of years she has been battling numerous bouts of Double Pneumonia and CMV (Cyto Megalovirus: a virus that causes cellular enlargement and formation of eosinophilic inclusion bodies esp. in the nucleus and acts as an opportunistic infectious agent in immunosuppressed conditions). The last bout started in November 2013 and is still present. She has become antibiotic resistant so it is hard to treat any of her ailments. She has good days and many bad days but this strong lady keeps on keeping on.

Julie tried to contact Dr. Masters again earlier this year but discovered he passed away in 2009, one of many roadblocks in the Lyme World. In April, 2014 we found another Dr. in Columbia, MO who was a colleague of Dr. Masters, (remember he is the Dr. who helped our sister Julie get treatment in the beginning.) She immediately set up an appointment with him only to find out that the first available appointment for new patients wasn’t until Wednesday, November 19th, 2014. Despite the long wait, this brought a light back into Julie’s eyes, she has hope again. We are all anxiously waiting her November 19th appointment, hoping he can help her to live her life with less pain, sickness and discomfort once again.

For the past couple of years, Bill has been very ill and has been in and out of the hospital numerous times. He has not been able to work since July, 2014 due to his disability. With Bill having been the sole provider for the family for the past 26 years this has become a very stressful situation in the Frazier household. Between the astronomical medical bills and the loss of a steady income they are trying desperately to make ends meet and keep a roof over their heads.

This leads us to the reason for this fundraiser. It is very, very hard for Julie & Bill to ask for help but unfortunately their backs are against the wall so we are asking for them. Julie’s condition is not covered by insurance, therefore any treatment and protocol is all out of pocket. With the financial changes that have taken place since her appointment was made in April, Julie was going to cancel. We made her promise us that she would not cancel this appointment for any reason and our promise to her was that we would find a way to get her help and she tearfully agreed.

We do not want to see that light of hope go out of her eyes ever again. We are asking for assistance with the travel expenses to and from Missouri, initial Doctors consult, lab work and testing the Dr. will need to do so he can get her the proper treatment. Unfortunately, these costs are all due at the time of the appointment and very expensive. Just to see the Doctor will cost about $700.00. All tests are charged separately and cost anywhere from $150 - $300 each. We are looking to get only the most vital tests done as there will still be the long term monthly costs of medications. We realize you may be asking yourselves why not go to a Doctor in Nebraska? Well that is a great question, we wish there was a Doctor here in our home state or better yet right here in Lincoln that specializes in this treatment. Unfortunately there are very few Doctors and very few States that offer any sort of treatment. Columbia, MO happens to be one of the closest ones to us.

Our goal is $2,000.00, any donation no matter how big or small would be so helpful and greatly appreciated. 100% of the proceeds will go to help Julie & Bill. Your donation will not be tax deductible.

We have set up an  account on Go Fund Me for your convenience, there is a donate button located on this page. If you are not comfortable with using this option please contact Jacque, Jeff or Joe & we can give you an address to send another form of payment to.

We all know someone who is either dealing with Cancer, Alzheimer’s, ALS or many other terrible diseases. Lyme Disease is one that has been around for many years but is just now starting to get the attention that it deserves. Those who contracted the disease many years ago are the ones who are going to need our help now. Please invite your contacts to join this group. This is something that could affect anyone of us at any time, awareness is key. Maybe we can help you or your loved one by bringing this to your attention.

Thank you for your Time and Consideration to help one of your Friends and Loved one.
