Fernando Fregoso Memorial Scholarship Fund

On June 11, 2020, Fernando passed unexpectedly from Covid-19.
Fernando “Fernie” Fregoso coached multiple sports -from football, to baseball, to his all time favorite sport, soccer- in Indio and Coachella for over 30 years.
Throughout his career as a coach, Fernie touched many lives and inspired many athletes to be the best version of themselves. He focused on team building activities that would help strengthen patience, compassion, and integrity so that his athletes would be successful on and off the field. Fernie encouraged his athletes to always try their best, no matter how tough the game got, and to stay positive. He also constantly emphasized the importance of education and reminded his athletes that excelling academically was one of the keys to being successful.
We would love to honor Coach Fernie and everything he did for our community by creating a scholarship in his name. The funds raised for this scholarship will be awarded to a student at Indio High School who excels in academics, sports, and giving back to their community, which were all things Fernie was passionate about.
Any amount donated is greatly appreciated. The goal reflects the amount needed to fund this scholarship for 10 years. We thank you in advance for helping keep Fernie’s Memory alive!

Fernie’s Credits:
Right after high school, Fernie joined the Coachella Valley Soccer League, and then moved on to serving as a coach for CVSL from 1985-1987. He then helped coordinate and coached and indoor travel soccer team in Ontario, CA from 1987-1989. He was the head coach for girls soccer at his alma mater, Coachella Valley High School, from 1994-1997 and at Indio High School from 1998-2011.
He was also a coach for the Indio AYSO for over 20 years. There, he coached a number of select and traveling teams year round. In addition to coaching soccer, Fernie also served as the Freshmen Football coach for IHS in 2017 and coached Boys Travel Ball in Indio for three years.

Fernando "Fernie" Fregoso entrenó varios deportes, desde el fútbol soccer a béisbol. Su deporte favorito de todos los tiempos, el fútbol soccer. Fue entrenador de Indio y Coachella durante más de 30 años.
A lo largo de su carrera como entrenador, Fernie tocó muchas vidas e inspiró a muchos atletas a ser la mejor versión de sí mismos. Se concentró en el desarrollo de equipos y actividades que ayudan a desarrollar la paciencia, la compasión y la integridad para que sus atletas tuvieran éxito dentro y fuera del campo. Fernie animó a sus atletas a hacer todo lo posible, no importaba lo difícil que fuera el juego, la importancia era mantenerse positivos. También enfatizó constantemente la importancia de la educación y recordó a sus atletas que el sobresalir académicamente era una de las claves para tener éxito.
Nos encantaría honrar al entrenador “Fernie” por todo lo que hizo por nuestra comunidad estableciendo una beca en su memoria. Los fondos recaudados para esta beca se otorgarán a un estudiante de la Escuela Secundaria, sobresaliente en lo académico, los deportes y la servicio a su comunidad, así como Fernando fue un apasionado del deporte.

Justo después de terminar la escuela secundaria, Fernie se unió a Liga Futbol Soccer del Valle de Coachella , y luego pasó a servir como entrenador de la liga CVSL de 1985-1987. Luego ayudó a coordinar y entrenar al equipo de fútbol de viajes bajo cubierta en Ontario, CA de 1987 a 1989. Fue entrenador en jefe de fútbol femenino de donde el graduo, Coachella Valley High School, de 1994 a 1997 y en Indio High School de 1998 a 2011.
También fue entrenador del Indio AYSO durante más de 20 años. Allí, entrenó a una serie de equipos selectos durante todo el año. Además de entrenar fútbol, Fernie también se desempeñó como entrenador de fútbol de “Freshmen” para Indio High School en 2017 y entrenó Boys Travel Ball en Indio durante tres años.
