Jonathan Fernandez Funeral Fund

June 14, 2019

I am deeply saddened to report that our young friend Jonathan lost his long battle with cancer two days ago. After his initial diagnosis, his doctors said he would have only a year to live, but Jonathan showed tremendous strength; he beat the odds and survived four years. He was a loving son and brother. He had a huge heart and showed his love for his family and passion for life every day. In return his family cherished him and made his all too short life a happy one. On behalf of the Fernandez family we’d like to thank everyone who helped Jonathan throughout this struggle with donations, prayers, and good thoughts.

We are now trying to help the family with funeral and burial expenses. Any support is greatly appreciated and will help alleviate some of the burden the family is experiencing during this very difficult time.

Thanks so much once again.

Hello Friends and Family,

I wanted to share an urgent update on Jonathan's status. We are currently trying to raise money to help get him to Duke University Cancer Center in Durham, North Carolina, where he may be eligible for a vaccine trial that is promising for children with gioblastoma multiforme. This will require numerous trips to Durham for treatment, initially every two weeks and then monthly. We'd like to help the family cover travel expenses, lodging, loss of wages as well as possible treatment costs if his insurance isn't accepted at Duke.

Time is of the essence. Unfortunately, despite having three previous surgeries to remove cancerous tumors, the most recent of which was in March of 2018, Jonathan now has several new tumors, all inoperable. He recently finished a course of radiation and chemotherapy treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering here in New York, it was not successful. No more treatment options are available at Sloane Kettering or NYU where he has previously received treatment, and his doctors here agree that his best hope is the Duke trial, and that he should begin this treatment as soon as possible. Any donation or help will be deeply appreciated by the Fernandez family. If that's not possible, please share this post if you can. Thanks so very much!

We are trying to raise money for our friend Jonathan Fernandez. Jonathan is a bright, active 13 -year- old boy who suffered a seizure on May 25th of this year.  It was discovered that the seizure was caused by a brain tumor, and he underwent surgery to remove the tumor on June 17th.  Unfortunately,  the tumor was malignant and Jonathan received a diagnoses of stage 4 cancer, a type called GBM (glioblastoma multiforme) . This is a fast-growing type of brain cancer which has a poor prognosis, and rarely affects children. The family is hoping for the best outcome and doing everything they can to make sure he gets the best course of treatment available to him. We are trying to raise money to help cover medical expenses as well as basic living expenses and lost wages so that the family can focus their energy on giving him the care  he needs and offer some relief and support for the family as they face this challenge.  The Fernandez family would like to raise awareness about Glioblastoma Multiforme, especially its occurrence in  children, in the hopes that more research will be done  which may be of help to others who are affected by this aggressive cancer in the future.
Any amount is helpful and we also ask for your prayers.
Thank you for your support!
