Felixstowe and Walton academy fundraiser

introduction to the club (who and why we joined)

We are a part of Felixstowe and Walton academy, and we are carrying out a 2 year course run by SCL. We all joined the course because of our love for football. All the students that attend the academy are 16/17 years of age

During lockdown the club has lost money due to grass roots football being stopped. Grassroots football means bringing together children and giving them access to football in their own environment whatever their age, gender, physical condition, skin colour, religion or ethnic origin. This has affected the club due to a lack of ticket sales and no cup competitions meaning that the club has not gained any money during the entire lockdown period. This has knock on effects as the club has less money than usual and is unable to support the academy that they have set up to the full extent that they would want.

Club history

Felixstowe United were formed in 1890, Walton united were formed in 1895 and both clubs emerged in 2000.This is the highest they have ever got since it was established. The club were relegated from the Premier division in 2002 and they began to focus on the youth setups after the relegation. After the development of the club, they regained promotion to the Premier division in 2006. They then began focusing on youth development and regained promotion to the premier division in 2006. The club are currently in the isthmian league and compete in cup competitions such as the FA cup, FA trophy, FA vase and isthmian league cup. In July 2017 a new pitch side club house opened. The reserves were also promoted to the step 6 Thurlow Nunn first division.

Mental health

There is evidence to show that exercise can improve your mental health, and these can be simple exercises such as jogging, swimming, cycling, and even walking.

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.

Signs of mental illness

●      Feeling anxious or worried

●      Feeling depressed

●      Emotional outbursts

●      Sleep problems

●      weight/appetite changes

●      Substance abuse

FIFA professionals’ study of 1,602 professional players, conducted between 22 march and 14 April, discovered that 22% of 468 female players and 13% of 1,134 male players reported symptoms consistent with a diagnosis of depression. It also found that 18% of the woman and 16% of men reported markers of generalised anxiety.

Fundraising activities

The activities that we will be taking part in to raise money and promote fitness will be completing 200 miles on an exercise, creating an exercise video to be shared with young people to promote health, fitness and wellbeing, taking part in a Battle Ropes challenge and competing in an online FIFA tournament where we will be putting in our own money to get the fundraising started.

We aim to raise £500 between now and Christmas to help support the club who have lost 30% of sponsorship activities, 50% down on clubhouse activities, and 75% down on event income which equates to an approximate loss of £40,000.

Every £1 will really help us to achieve our target and support future generations to positively engage in grassroots football.
