Felicitys Spinal Surgery

Meet Felicity, our newest foster and medical case! I picked the name Felicity because Felicity is an English feminine given name meaning "happiness". It is derived from the Latin word felicitas meaning "luck, good fortune"….which she definitely needs!

Yesterday late afternoon I got a message from a fellow rescuer about a kitten in need at a shelter I don’t usually pull from. I got the medical info from them. They said she was shot in the spine but had deep pain response, was Defecating but not urinating. I spoke with Dr Levine’s office and I was told if she was actually moving and had deep pain response there was a decent prognosis. If they were wrong it was about a 10% chance. I had to make all these decisions and calls in under an hour. So I decided to go for it because worst case is she winds up continuing to be paralyzed in the back end.

Well I got Felicity and she only has reflexes, no pain response. So she has the lower chance of ever becoming normal again. Not to say it won’t happen, but Dr Levine has to give me a fair prognosis but he knows I will do everything for her.

Felicity is going in to see Dr Levine tomorrow morning for surgery to remove the projectile in her spine. The hope is with this object removed everything will heal/the spinal cord will return to normal and Felicity will be fine. I don’t know the cost of this yet, if he wants to do an MRI, etc. But spinal surgery is never cheap. I’m estimating $5800-7200 for surgery with another possible $2000 for MRI. I’ll ask them to put an estimate together today. But for today Felicity is heading to see Dr Sabshin for some bloodwork, a urinalysis (her pee STINKS and she has pus coming from her vagina), and a felv/fiv test.

Please help us raise the funds for Felicitys spinal surgery. It’s not going to be cheap but it is her only chance at ever walking again. She didn’t ask for this to happen. She didn’t ask to be born or to be shot in the spine. But here she is, a victim of kitten season. Yet she’s still purring and loving. Cats are so resilient.
