Felecia Gussman

Felecia was admitted to the ER on August 22nd. A few hours in, she was diagnosed with Sepsis. Sepsis is the body's life-threatening response to infection which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. There was a bacterial infection in Felecia’s body that made its way into her blood stream, and attacked all of her vital organs. Her heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver were all affected. The medicine used to fight the infection and keep her alive focused the blood flow to her heart and brain. In the process… blood flow to her extremities was restricted. This resulted in above the knee bilateral amputations, a right arm amputation at the forearm, multiple skin grafting surgeries, and amputations to the left hand coming soon. It is estimated she will remain in the ICU for another month, and then she will be released to an inpatient rehab facility for several months of rehabilitation.
