Food for the Starving Street Dogs
Don protégé
With the current pandemic, India has issued a 21 day lock down, this is being strictly enforced by the police. On top of this, the government is deciding if they will restrict individuals from going outside for an additional 90 days. The COVID-19 situation has already become dire for the animals as well as humans. Their only means of survival, until the crisis, has been to scavenge through garbage that humans leave behind, bits from restaurant leftovers, food from kind citizens and the amazing feeders that travel far and wide to feed them.
PM, Narendra Modi, has recognized the importance of feeding the street animals, as they can only go so long without eating before they die. Street feeders are now allowed special permission to go out and supply food to the starving animals. We are here to support them and need you to join us. We are increasingly concerned about these amazing individuals that are contacting us everyday. These dedicated volunteers are risking their own health to ensure pups have something in their bellies to tide them over until the next time they can feed them.
We are only days into India’s lock down and it feels like there is no end in site. We have been able to distribute some funds to a few feeders but now those funds are drained. There are over 30 million stray dogs in India as well, as cows, monkeys, cats and other wildlife. Some of these amazing individuals in India are desperately trying to feed upwards of 200 dogs each day. How do you choose which dogs get to eat? The only food they can get now is from what these feeders are providing. There are no more restaurant scraps, no more garbage on the streets to search through and no kind individuals moving through the streets to hand them biscuits as they pass by. They are so, so hungry their eating old plastic that litters the streets. They do not understand what is happening right now and why their source of food has completely.
Please take 2 minutes to donate anything you can. We have such a long road ahead of us.
