MND Research

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system. This leads to muscle weakness, often with visible wasting. MND is unbiased when it comes to age, gender and ethnicity. It is a rare disease that currently affects 2 in 100,000 people in the UK each year. MND is an incurable disease that unfortunately is fatal.

Darshanpal Kaur Pourawal, a strong, loving and caring mother of 4 and grandmother of 8 is currently battling an incurable illness. Before being diagnosed with MND, Darshan was a healthy woman who never complained about any health issues and would never even take paracetamol. Darshan would love spending time with her family, cooking amazing Indian food, serving her local community by preparing Langar at the Gudwara and teaching yoga classes. She took pride in her home and loved gardening. After being diagnosed in October 2020, she caught pneumonia and spent 6 weeks in intensive care. The family was told she only had a few weeks left to live. A whole year later she has lost use of her body and voice, but she is still in her home amongst her family.

On the 7th January 2022, Darshan will be celebrating her Dimond wedding anniversary with her loving husband Kewal Singh Pourawal. In celebration of their 60 loving year together Kewal has decided to raise money to support further research into MND.
