Music for Haiti
Spende geschützt
MusicforHaiti.org is a program that was initiated to help bring music to children in Haiti, specifically in the region of Tabarre in Port-au-Prince, through music education and therapy.
I am raising funds to not only be able to continue to pay the salaries of the teachers and the therapists who give their all to teaching these kids, but to cover the considerable costs of shipping donated instruments and musical supplies (ie, rosin, music books, strings, reeds, extra bridges and pegs, etc), buying more instruments, travel costs for the teachers who travel for hours at a time in overcrowded vehicles (google “tap tap”!) at potentially great risk on unpaved roads to get to a high mountaintop orphanage in order to teach the children, as well as costs of trying to repair instruments that have a high chance of being warped or damaged in the tropical climate of Haiti. The goal is set at $10,000 to cover costs for half the year of the program; any donation, no matter how small, is incredibly welcomed and deeply appreciated.
If you’re unable to contribute monetarily but have musical instruments or supplies that you would like to donate, please message for details.
Additionally, if you have any interest in volunteering as a music teacher or therapist for even a short amount of time, please also feel free to inquire.
A brief overview:
Music Education Program
We have a staff with a wide range of basic music knowledge/skills on location who work with the children and give them group music lessons.
Music Therapy
The music therapy program is based primarily at the school of Kay St. Germain, with outposts at another school, Kay St Elaine, and also Kenscoff, an orphanage up in the mountains. Visits to area St. Damien's Children hospital occur as needed to work with additional children.
Another goal of this program that is very close in sight is starting another outpost in Cite Soleil, one of the poorest and most dangerous slums in the Western Hemisphere.
With your help, we can make this a reality !!
Thank you so much in advance for your consideration and support.
