Faye2018

Faye Komagata, founder of Hawaii Matsuri Taiko, former Kumon Instructor in Wahiawa, Nuuanu, and on Molokai, and advisor to the Soto Mission of Hawaii Women’s Association, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August 2016.  Since then, and despite the hardships and pain associated with this invasive disease, Faye has been fighting with an unwavering and indefatigable spirit that has been an inspiration to many.  But cancer has taken its toll, both physically: chemotherapy and radiation treatments, exploratory surgeries, countless medical tests, prolonged hospital stays at Queen’s in Honolulu and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, numerous doctors’/specialists’ visits, trips to the ER, physical and occupational therapy, and financially.  The expenses not covered by insurance have been mounting, no doubt an additional source of worry for Faye and the family.  Throughout this journey, Faye has remained steadfast and uncomplaining, and has resumed as many responsibilities at the temple as her health allows.  She tirelessly provides leadership, advice and a compassionate heart to those in need. 

This Go Fund Me Drive provides an opportunity to give back to someone who has given much and continues to give of herself in spite of her present circumstance.  Her contributions as a taiko pioneer in Hawaii, as an extraordinary Kumon instructor for 30 years, and in her leadership role at the Soto Mission are far reaching and have made this world a better place.

On behalf of the Komagata family, I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone for sending their continued prayers and wishes of comfort and healing through the countless phone calls, texts, emails, letters, and visits to my mother at the hospital and her home.  Thank you very much for visiting this Go Fund Me drive for my mom.  Together, I hope that we can bring a bit of happiness, joy, and relief into her life.
