Fault Line - A Theatre Piece on Domestic Violence

Donation protected
What is Fault Line?
Fault Line is a devised theatre piece being developed by Isabella Arras and an ensemble of theatre makers (Cat Woods, Illia George, and Lucas Sun) to tackle misconceptions around the taboo topic of domestic violence/abuse, also known as intimate partner violence. It will follow a story that aims to educate audiences on warning signs, types of abuse, and misconceptions around survivors by highlighting the impact of generational trauma, narcissism, and cycles of abuse. But perhaps more importantly, it aims to offer empathy, understanding, and hope to all who come in contact with the piece, whether they have a personal connection to the subject or are learning about it for the first time.

Our Mission:
This project was born from the belief that a large part of the reason domestic violence/abuse is so prevalent across the globe today is because societally we have been trained that it’s scary or impolite to talk about. Abuse thrives in our silence. The creation of Fault Line is fueled by a mission to break the silence by educating audiences on early warning signs of abuse, the different types of abuse including, but not limited to, the less obvious forms like psychological abuse, and misconceptions and stigmas around victims and survivors who choose to stay or go back to their abusers. Our main goals are to aid in the prevention of domestic violence and abuse as well as offer hope and support to those already impacted by it.

Statistics:
  • On average, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or partners in this country every day. About 4,000 women die each year due to domestic violence.
  • Of the total domestic violence homicides, about 75% of the victims were killed as they attempted to leave the relationship or after the relationship had ended.
  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.
  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contact sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.
  • Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime.
  • Domestic victimization is correlated with a higher rate of depression and suicidal behavior.
  • Seventy-three percent of male abusers were abused as children.
  • Thirty percent of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by her husband in the past year.
  • On average, a woman will leave an abusive relationship seven times before she leaves for good.

Costs:
  • Rehearsal Space: $10/hr to $60/hr = $210 to $1,260 total. We typically rehearse 2-3x a week and will continue to do so through April.
  • Performance Venue: $2,475 - This allows for one technical rehearsal, four performances and use of the projector.
  • Costume/Set/Props: $500
  • Cast/Crew Compensation: We currently have nine people attached to this project who all deserve to be compensated for the incredible work they’re doing to tell these stories. Additional funding will go towards paying them for their artistry, labor, and time.
