Altitude Destination Imagination

Congratulations to Altitude's FIRST Destination Imagination Team to make it to Globals Finals. Team "The Glitching KFC Fort Fighters" consist of Avery Shaw, Chaselyn Ponsford, Hannah Wussow, Natalie Newman (Pine Ridge Elementary), Reese Bailey (Pine Ridge Elementary), and Veronica Dobbs. This team of 6 elementary girls placed 3rd in Regionals and 2nd in State. The team is excited to compete on a global level against over 15 countries. The competition takes place May 21st through May 26th in Kansas City, Missouri.  What is Destination Imagination? The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students' creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process."  https://www.destinationimagination.org/ The team chose the Scientific Challenge "Medical Mystery." They had to research diseases and the symptoms, write their own script, build their props and scenery, design and create their costumes, and create a Sympt-O-Matic that would use technical methods to show the symptoms all presented in an 8 minute performance. The team did all the work.  This has been an amazing learning experience for the girls, not only with academics but learning to work collaboratively while problem solving issues without adult intervention. The STEM fields are largely dominated by males and these amazing girls have broken those gender stereotypes by excelling in this competition.
