As is the case with many who suddenly experience a life-threatening illness, amputation and subsequent handicap, there are many unforeseen costs that are unaccounted for.
Father Rick Wendell is currently rehabilitating with his second prosthetic leg and awaiting the completion of his third prosthetic limb. This fundraiser has been recreated from the previous GoFundMe campaign started on Father Rick's behalf by Vern Guenther which raised just over $35,000! This new GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise funds for Father Rick’s third prosthetic leg and accompanying medical expenses.
Unfortunately, this is just the beginning for someone in Father Rick's position. He must continue to cover the deductible costs of physical therapy, as insurance limits the number of visits per year it will cover, and on top of that, as a diabetic, Father Rick has to pay for insulin out of pocket as well as for many of his other prescriptions.
Getting Father Rick back to full time ministry ASAP was the main goal, and as you can see from Father’s weekly Sunday homilies we’ve managed to do just that with your initial support! In order to maintain this goal it may become necessary to retrofit Father’s home and vehicle to make them more handicap accessible as he’s putting stress on other parts of his body while compensating for a lack of suitable accommodations.

It is with great gratitude and humility that I have been blessed with your love, support, prayers, and donations. I am humbled at the outpouring of support and have a deeper understanding of the mission our Lord is calling me to. You all are participants in my journey and have made it possible for the rapid healing of my leg and furthermore the needs of my recovery above and beyond what insurance will pay. I do know this, I do not walk alone but walk together with you towards our eternal home and along the way we support one another in times of need as we celebrate together the gift of life God has given us.
