Fidel Hernandez was an honorable man who worked hard and cared for people.  Anyone who needed help turned to Fidel and he never said No.  He was the sole breadwinner in his household and he leaves behind his wife, Gabriela  (Gabby) and his two young children Fidelito and Nancy.

No one ever expects to get that knock on the door in the middle of the night that wakes you up in your sleep to tell you that your spouse has been killed in a tragic accident on the job.

Gabby doesn't drive and has never worked outside of her home.  She has dedicated herself to her children and her community by being active and involved in her children's school and church.

Your donation will help her to get by as she figures out the next steps of her life.  Please consider helping.

 Fatal Fremont Township Crash

On February 20, 2018, at approximately 12:40AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to North Fairfield Road north of Route 176, Fremont Township, for a traffic crash with injuries.  When sheriff’s deputies arrived they found a person seriously injured, who’d been pinned between two vehicles.

Preliminary investigation shows two box-style trucks, owned by the same refrigeration company, were traveling southbound on North Fairfield Road, north of Route 176.  The driver of the front truck, a 47 year-old man of Elgin, pulled over to the side of the road to adjust the load in the rear of the truck.  The driver of the following truck, a 45 year-old man of Bloomingdale, also pulled over to assist.

It appears the 45 year-old didn’t place his truck in park prior to exiting to assist his co-worker.  The box truck driven by the 45 year-old then rolled into the 47 year-old, as he was standing between the two vehicles.  The 47 year-old was seriously injured.  He was subsequently transported, via ambulance, to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced deceased.

The 45 year-old was not injured during the incident.

An autopsy will be conducted on the 47 year-old by the Lake County Coroner’s Office on February 21, 2018.  The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
