Appalachian Trail Thru Hike

My daughter Haylen and I are planning to hike the Appalachian Trail this season(2021).We have been hiking and camping all over the country for basically her entire life (even when I carried her in a “kid carrier” backpack) lol.

She has asked me if we could hike the AT for a couple years now after watching and being inspired by several documentaries we’ve watched. This has also always been a dream of mine as well and would like to start her out in life by doing something most only ever dream about. So I’ve decided that this is the year we’re going to go for it.

We’ve done and will continue to do 5k, 10k, half, and full marathon trail runs and challenges along with multiple day hiking and camping trips to help prepare and to get into a routine of efficiently setting up/taking down our current camp setups.

We also plan of to take a ton of pictures and video throughout the trip to be posted on multiple different social media outlets so that everyone can follow our progress. There’s a strong possibility that we will do a weekly vlog on YouTube as well as a full summarized vlog upon completion.

We also plan to give out our GPS beacon information to close friends and family members to allow real time tracking information throughout our journey.

All of the money received by us will strictly and solely go towards this goal in the form of:

-gear
-food
-gps emergency  locators 
-permits
-the occasional night in a hostel/hotel
-laundry 
-postage
-a backup fund for failed gear or emergencies 

The amount needed reflects what I’ve researched to be appropriate for the average Appalachian Trail thru hiker minus gear and supplies we already have that is appropriate for a extended thru hike.

We will also be putting up a registry at rei.com for anyone who would rather buy something tangible to support this adventure.
