Our dear friend Jen Mellen, wife and mother of two wonderful boys, was diagnosed with Colon Cancer on April 4th 2016 and has now been battling this disease for over a year. Jen is an avid runner, has been a dedicated cross fit enthusiast and hikes with her family regularly to keep all healthy and in shape. Cancer can strike anyone, at any time, in any part of the body. Luckily, Jen sees her PCP regularly and was diagnosed early enough to begin chemotherapy treatment via infusions.
Jen started treatment in May 2016, which consisted of 6 rounds of infusions every other week. The infusions began at the hospital, lasting a few hours, and then Jen was sent home with a pump that pumped chemo for an additional 46 hours. In September 2016, Jen underwent a dual surgery to remove the remaining cancer from both her colon and liver, followed up by 6 additional rounds of chemotherapy. In January 2017, the cat scan showed that Jen was cancer free! However, when she went back for her 3-month check-up in April 2017, the scans indicated that the cancer had returned and has now progressed into her lungs.
Chemotherapy infusions per the same treatment regimen began again in May 2017 and Jen has 5 more rounds left to go. The goal is for Jen’s follow up scans and bloodwork to show that she’s cancer free in August.
Please help us reach the goal of raising $25,000 for Jen by donating to her cause. Insurance companies only pay for part of cancer treatment costs, which often leaves families worrying about finances. Finances are the last thing these families need to think about during such stressful times like these. Let’s help support Jen so she can stay focused on her recovery and family. Jen and her family deserve and need our support so she can be as stress free as possible to let her body stay strong and fight off this awful disease. Together, we can make this happen!
Thank you for your consideration and kindness,
Julie & Becky
